IEEE PES Outstanding Engineer Award in 2022: Prof. Dr. Petr Korba
We are pleased to announce the winner of the Swiss PES Outstanding Engineer Award 2022
Prof. Dr. Petr Korba has a long and very successful career in the area of power systems, where he has made significant contributions both in the private sector and in academic research. As an engineer and inventor, he has co-authored more than 100 patents and was nominated for the European Inventor Award in 2011, in addition to being the technical lead of many large projects, such as the installation of the largest battery energy storage system in Switzerland in 2010-11.
Since becoming a professor at the ZHAW in 2012, he has continued to be a prolific researcher with extensive scientific output, including numerous book chapters and two books. His research group and laboratory have achieved international visibility. He is the organizer of the annual international conference DynPower in Winterthur and has served as senior editor of IEEE journals such as the IEEE Systems Journal or IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control.
Prof. Dr. Korba has been teaching courses on Electrical Engineering at the ZHAW and the ETHZ and has supervised numerous BSc-, MSc-, and PhD-students.
We congratulate Prof. Dr. Korba on winning the well-deserved award and are looking forward to the nominations for the year 2023.
The recipient of the Outstanding Engineering Award is selected based on the following criteria:
- Outstanding technical contributions to the power engineering profession.
- Outstanding professional and leadership contributions to the power engineering profession.
- Significant contributions to the local community representing the power engineering profession.
- Outstanding contributions in the area of power engineering education.
You can nominate candidates by sending a mail to the chapter secretary (Henrik Nordborg, henrik.nordborg@ost.ch). Nominations should include:
- Name, affiliation, and contact address of the candidate.
- A short motivation emphasizing their contributions to the area of power engineering, explaining how they meet one or multiple criteria above.
- Additional documents, such as publications etc, as required.
Selection will be according to the decision of the PES Switzerland Outstanding Engineer Award selection committee. Further details on the process and the award are available here.
